Before Meitner had reached Stockholm in her flight from the Nazis Irene Joliot-Curie (1897-1956) and Frederic Joliot-Curie (1900-1958) had obtained the same effect independently of the German investigators. In Stockholm, Lise Meitner communicated her thoughts regarding uranium fission to her nephew Dr. Robert O. Frisch (1904-1979), another German refugee who was then working in the laboratory of the world-famous atom-scientist, Niels Bohr (1885-1962), in Copenhagen. On January 15, 1939, Bohr's laboratory confirmed the Hahn experiment. Frisch was terribly excited. He sent the news immediately to Bohr, who had just reached the United States for a stay of several months to discuss various scientific matters with Einstein at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, New Jersey."
